I chose pink.

It was quick done to decide what to knit to the new babygirl. A jacket and boothies. After that I found an old pattern to a hat that I wanted to try too. The hat is quite thick so it will be nice to use this winter.
Now I've been knitting so much that I think I'll need a break. I still have some items in my head that I'll have to try out but not right now. It's time to work in my journal again. I miss that messy stuff. :-)
Today we have the most beautiful weather, clear skies and sun all over. It's almost like I felt the energy to start washing my kitchen. The cupboards and drawers are filled with all kind of items not in use so I need to do some serious work in there.

I have this big project going in my journal, but it didn't come out as I wanted so I lost interest for it. Now it's time to finish it and I'll look at it with fresh eyes. Perhaps something magical will happen.
I'm still on low carb and it works well for me. I've already redused myself some kilograms and handyman has started calling me "his splinter. " How sweet is that?
What he does that matter a lot more is to join me for quick evening walks. That helps a lot.

That's all for now, I'm off to prepare our dinner. Thanks for visiting and take good care.

A huge gift.

Hello, I'm still here you know.

I've had a busy week. Last Friday I had a friend visiting and she brought me this incredible gift. Three sacks filled with yarn!!
All the colours in the photo below were included and a huge pile of each colour. It felt like I was given half a yarnshop. The yarn isn't wool, but very soft and mashine washable and the best thing is that the knitted items keeps their form no matter how many times they're washed. For children it's good too that it dosen't itch.
My kind friend is a teacher and at her school they were cleaning out the art and craft department. Nowadays they use wool only so all this yarn were never in use. Lucky me!! I'm planning to crochet her something in granny squares as a small thankyou gift.

I had promised a niece of mine to knit her tiny son, Erik ( 8 months) a sweather and I felt the time had come to do so. I called her and offered her to come choose her favorite colours and she did. My niece were born in the late seventies and she simply love the seventies colours. After that I've been knitting. Now it's done and you can see the result below.

If I'm allowed I'll show you a photo of the little one with his new clothes on. The size is for a year and a half old child, made in agreement with my niece. She want it to fit next autum. For now she just turn up the sleeves a bit.
My next project is to knit something for a newborn girl. One of my nephews became a father in september. I havn't decide what to knit yet so I'll have to think about it a bit.

Otherwise my mandala journal has been neglected, I have a large project going in it but didn't find the time to continue. I will catch up on it though and show you what it's all about.

The sun is shining and it seem to become a very nice day here. I hope you'll have a nice day too.

A bit of this and that.

Hello!

I have been doing a bit different things lately. The journalsppread below was made some days ago. At this point I was thinking of what words that appeal to me. Have you ever thought of that? Once you start thinking all kinds of words are popping in your mind. But what are the ones you are coming back to? The one word that always get me to think is reaction. Ever since I learned what it ment it has been my favorite word.
The word ROSE mean the flower but also means to give credit or praise. (in Norwegian that is.)
Once I start to think of some words they lead to other and a kind of "movie" starts rolling. That's really facinating.

As I wrote earlier on, the knitting season is here and I've knitted my first pair of socks this weekend. (first pair for the season) I've had this yarn in my stash for a long time and wanted to use it. It's not the best choice to these patterned socks but I wanted to knit a pattern and I wanted to use this yarn. In any case they will warm my feet and that's the main issue. The colours is not at all that blue, I don't know what happened with my photo.

Today I have made cakes. Applecakes.
I did start with the usual one, and then I tried to make cupcakes and that went well. Easier to freeze them as cupcakes, or at least easier to handle. Tomorrow I'll probably make a lot more. I forgot to add the almonds at the last cupcakes and that is so irritating. They taste and looks a lot better with the allmonds.

What have you been up to lately?
Wish you all the best and thanks for visiting.

A nice and warm shawl.

Knitted shawl.

I knitted this shawl as one of many. Today I had to put it round my neck because of some aching stiffness.
I've become addicted to these shawls in winter. They (I have a lot of them in different colours) are knitted from alpaca and are very soft and warming.
The best thing about them is that they are so easy to knit. One start with 3 stitches and increases 1 st every other row (one side only and always the same side)untill one have 130 st. Then decrease in the same manner as the inc.

It's decorative to use a contrasting colour and add stripes according to your wishes. On this shawl I used offwhite and made some french knots too. When I made the tassels (don't know if that's the right word) I had no more offwhite yarn left but some in work. I unravelled it and used it. To my big surprise it came out well and different to my expectations. The tassels became real full wich I like.
As a variation one can also knit some of the purl rows, and add some stripes that way too.

My socks are done.

Now they are done. It was quite a job to figure out the pattern (a written one that I came across) but when I at last understood how it was ment it was easy. I'm very pleased with the result and think that these must be Sunday socks only.
In our old house there are wooden floors that tear a whole lot of socks and this pair are too nice to be worn out in a hurry.

In the picture above they don't look nice at all.

They are very fun to knit and I'm sure I will do it again.

What do you think?
You can find the pattern here

Good luck if you will try to knit them!

Sock knitting.

I,ve seen a lot of sock knitting lately.

It seems there are a lot of people knitting socks. Several blogs are showing socks knitted toe up. I have never tried that and to be honest I really don't understand why it's done from toe up.

Right now I'm knitting socks without a heelturn. Have you ever tried that? Personally I prefer socks with a heelturn but I'm knitting for a youth in my family and he won't wear anything but MY socks without a heelturn.
His mum told me she has tried for years to make him wear knitted socks in winter but he refused. Now however, he won't use anything else than my socks.

They are really easy to knit.

You have to cast on a number of stitches dividable by three. Then knit 3 purl 3 for 3 turns. Start next turn by moving the first stitch to the previous needle. Then knit 3 purl 3 and thats the way it goes untill the decreasing of the toe.

I've made him a lot of pairs and often I use a couple of colours and have a colourshift every third round. They are really easy to make and one get a more even wear and tear since there is no signs to up and down.

For this pair I cast on 60 stitches and knit 40 rows (3 turns in each row) since this boy has quite big feet.

Need to knit something a little rougher.

After making the small doll I felt like doing something rougher.

I have this wonderful book about laceknitting. The shawl facing the front cover is reffered to as " The Crown Prince square shawl." It's really delicat, but that have to be for another occation. In spite of spring coming I decided to knit a scarf. I do not have any experience with Noro yarn from earlier on and I'm very satisfied. It feels so soft knitting with, almost like it melts in my hands. The colour changes are really nice too, one just have to be aware when starting a new ball.

This pattern is rough enough to show off even with all the colours, and it's easy enough to knit and listen to radio at the same time.

I'm looking forward to see how it looks like when blocked, and then I have a brand new scarf to start next winter.

Wish you all the best and enjoy your day!

A gift of great value.

I was the only one they knew who would appresiate this great gift.

Yesterday I was given a knitting magazine dated back to 1949. It is complete and the content is very exiting. It contains a lot of baby clothes several different mens jackets, socks, skarfs, mittens and the most exiting... womens underwear!!
A couple of bed jackets and a two piece bathing suit.
I'm so thankful and exited...

Have a look, isn't it delicious?

I'll just have to try to knit some of this. It looks so delicious, back in those days they had to make it for themselves. I'm really looking forward to make some of this.
I got this from my sister in law. Luckily she had me in mind in stead of throwing it away.
The heading says something like: "Featherweight and still warm"

I really can't resist this last piece!

This one is reffered to as a "sun suit" Don't you think it's cute?
Don't know whether you can spot the buttons. There are five buttons at the pants and three at the top. That top could be a hit right now. I'm a bit uncertain about the pants though.

This book came along too.

It's handwritten and contains a lot of patterns of baby clothes. How many one would need to be proper equipped.
There are patterns to oldfashioned aprons too, and several types.
At the end she describes how to weave and how to set up a loom. All beautiful handmade with the most delicious handwriting. I really do feel lucky.

Lace knitting

This is a closeup to show you how very thin it is.

The white shawl is made out of linen.

Warm and soft black woolyarn

My eyecatching petticoat.

I promised some pictures of knitted lace yesterday so I'll show you today.
The first picture is a red petticoat I knitted for my national outfit (sorry I don't know the english word for it) In norwegian it's called BUNAD.
When we are celebrating our national day (May 17th.)the weather can be really cold so my petticoat has been well used. The yarn used for this is a two ply wool yarn also from Shetland and it's very soft.(It don't itch at all)
The next two pictures are shawls, also used with my bunad. The black one for winter use and the white one for summer.
The white shawl is knitted in a yarn originally ment for the loom (it's linen)so it's a little bit stiffer than the black one.(one ply wool)
I'll add a close up of the black shawl just to give you an idea of the thickness of the yarn.
The petticoat is my own design the shawls are made from written patterns.
