Happy Friday sketches and PPF everyone.
Let me start this post by saying thank you for all your lovely comments on last weeks post. It's so enjoyable to read them all, and how creative you all were. Many times it can be hard to leave a comment that's fresh and feels new when the list of comments is long as a good week.
In my sketchbook this week, I have tried to capture some of the most loved flowers in my garden. When I was finished painting them, the usual thought I'll just...... arrived and I topped it all with a glaze of gold. I'm not sure that made my painting any good at all, but that's how it ended. By the way, I actually sat outside sketching these, but I prefere to work at my desk.
I've also been into a roll of making flowers in a more free line or freestyle. It all began some time ago when I was making this rose.
Some time later this one emerged.
And a couple of days ago I made this one. This last one is the main flower in a piece that I love and it has to be framed and can never leave home. LOL.
Yesterday I started playing with different flower shapes, to simplify them, and that's what I'll do this weekend too. I hope to find some really good lines which will make beautiful freestyle flowers. Next week I hope to share with you a piece made with this type of flowers.
Right now, this is how far I've come. Still just at the stage of experimenting.
Thank you for visiting and have a lovely weekend!
The lillies of the valley are beautiful, as are the other flowers, and the brightly coloured rose is wonderful. Valerie
ReplyDeletethis is such a productive and wonderful week's work... i particularly love the work in your sketchbook and also the simplified flower... it is so perfectly bright... xx
ReplyDeleteThe golden shimmer on the leaves looks beautiful and like sunshine in the garden. And I also like your freestyle flower exercises in your little book. I think exercises like this are a great way to find the individual style. And they look beautiful and inspire me so much.
ReplyDeleteLove all your wonderful flowers, fab lily of the valley, they have such a beautiful scent and can see why you won't part with the bright coloured flower, definitely a keeper. Happy PPF, Annette x

delicate and beautiful art works. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteLiljekonvall! Those beautiful flowers remind me og my mother, I used to pick them for her in the spring. So it's the same in Norwegian and In Swedish? In Finnish it's called kielo.
ReplyDeleteI admire people who can paint flowers, I could never to that. Your roses, I can feel the charming scent!
These are all beautiful flowers, but my absolute favorite are your lilies and that big stylized pink rose that you framed. Have fun experimenting. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAll those flowers .... Spring must be getting to you ;-) I find myself drawing and painting flowers all the time lately too (although here in Australia it's Autumn). I love your different styles, the colours of your favorite one are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGenial your relationship with flowers. Saludos
ReplyDeleteLaila your flowers are gorgeous! So different and beautiful work!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous..your florals are magnificent! the tiny lilys are stunning and gentle and peaceful! and wow..I totally love the bright layered one..very meditative and inspirational! Magical linework too!!!
ReplyDeleteLily of the Valley is my favorite flower - the smell is divine but sadly only a memory as I moved from Wisconsin where they bloomed each spring when I was only 14 and moved to Florida where they will not grow. Thanks for a great memory.
ReplyDeleteLook at all your beautiful blooms! The lily of the valley is very near and dear to my heart as it is a special flower for May day holiday in France . Each year I receive a card or two from family there with a little pressed "muguet de bois" as they call them. Your big, bright flower is wonderful too-I can see why you must keep it :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Gorgeous flowers! :)
ReplyDelete"This last one is the main flower in a piece that I love and it has to be framed and can never leave home." Hahahaha! That totally made me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing the evolution of your flowers! I see why you don't want to part with the pink one!
Wow, awesome flowers indeed. You are very good at flowers.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, all of them. I especially love the lily of the valley flowers. Gorgeous.

Oh my goodness...I thought the first flowers were so gorgeous with the leaves popping beautifully off the page and the gold sheen....the background was so wonderful...then that last flower I am absolutely in LOVE with...it's so gorgeous....I'd want cards, plates, mugs, and a comforter with that pattern on it!! I love making freestyle flowers.
ReplyDeleteTake that print and have cards made at Vistaprint...that's what I did..... try to find the bigger ones...and make sure to wait for a big sale too!! Sometimes they have 50 percent off!! You can use them for so many things... You should use it for business cards too! Too beautiful!! You are such an inspiration Laila!
All of your flowers are so pretty. Life like and colorful. I really like both of the pink flowers. Have a great weekend

Wow, you're so creative! Gorgeous work!
ReplyDeleteSmiles, Saskia :)
Interesting post and artwork especially as I have just taken up art journaling. This form of art does use simpler stronger lines than I am used to but I am always up for learning new things. Thanks for showing your work and ideas.
ReplyDeleteI loved looking at all your different flower paintings. I always want to work outside but it is so hot often I feel like I'm getting heat stroke so I usually take pictures and then work in the coolness of my studio. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have many beautiful flowers growing in your garden. You did a great job recreating them for your sketch book.
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful flowers! Lily of the valley is one of my favorites, too! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so colorful they cheer me up on a grey and rainy day. Glad I stopped by.
ReplyDeleteLaila, your flower art is incredible! I love looking at each one over and over - thank you for sharing your beautiful work :)
